POM Sheet FAQ
What is the maximum continuous operating temperature for POM Sheet?
POM Sheet can typically withstand continuous operation at temperatures up to 85-100°C (185-212°F) depending on the specific grade and load conditions. For intermittent exposure, POM can handle short-term temperature peaks up to 140°C (284°F). However, prolonged exposure to temperatures above 100°C may lead to gradual property degradation.
How does POM Sheet compare to Nylon in terms of moisture absorption?
POM Sheet has significantly lower moisture absorption (0.2-0.3%) compared to Nylon (up to 3% or more). This makes POM Sheet far more dimensionally stable in humid environments, maintaining its mechanical properties better than Nylon when exposed to moisture. The low moisture absorption also means POM doesn't require pre-drying before machining in most cases.
Can POM Sheet be welded or bonded?
Yes, POM Sheet can be joined using several methods: Hot plate welding (most effective), ultrasonic welding, or vibration welding. For bonding, special adhesives containing cyanoacrylate or two-component epoxy systems must be used, as standard adhesives typically don't work well with POM. Surface pretreatment with special primers can significantly improve bond strength.
Manufacturing Processes for POM Sheet
Our POM Sheets are produced using advanced extrusion technology ensuring:
- Consistent thickness tolerance (±5%)
- Excellent surface finish
- Uniform mechanical properties throughout the sheet
- Minimal internal stresses
Machining Guidelines for POM Sheet
| Operation | Recommended Parameters |
|---|---|
| Drilling | High-speed steel tools, 50-70 m/min cutting speed |
| Milling | Sharp carbide tools, 100-200 m/min cutting speed |
| Turning | 0.1-0.5 mm/rev feed rate, positive rake angles |
| Sawing | Fine-tooth band saws (10-14 TPI) at moderate speeds |
Chemical Resistance of POM Sheet
POM Sheet offers excellent resistance to:
- Most organic solvents
- Hydrocarbons
- Aliphatic and aromatic compounds
- Weak acids and bases
However, it is not recommended for use with strong acids, strong bases, or oxidizing agents.
